This alphabet quilt pattern bundle includes uppercase and lowercase Blackletter blocks, plus the numbers 0 through 9.
The letters are designed to work together to create any custom message or personalization for your sewing projects. The numbers come in two sizes (one tall, to use with the letters, and one square). Plus you save $6 when you buy the bundle!
Details
- Includes a total of 74 blocks: numbers 0 through 9, 26 uppercase letters, and 26 lowercase letters, plus two alternates for lowercase "s" and "x".
- Bonus lowercase baby quilt pattern 47" x 46".
- Foundation paper piecing (FPP).
Block size
- Number blocks include two sizes: TALL (corresponding in size to the letter blocks) and SQUARE (5" x 5" finished).
- Letter blocks are 9.5" high and at least 4" wide (depending on the letter).
- Note that the full block size includes blank spaces above and/or below the letters themselves to accommodate projects that use a mix of upper and lowercase letters. The size of an uppercase letter (for example) is itself actually just over 6" tall.
You can also scale these letters by using the 'print at x%' setting on your printer. The smallest I have tried is printing at 50% scale, which resulted in uppercase letters that were 3 inches high. This does result in some tiny pieces but it is doable! If scaling down, remember to add a full 1/4 seam allowance back to your outer edges of each piece.
Fabric requirements
For 26 letters:
- Letters, about ⅔ yard total scraps or 10 jelly roll strips or 8 fat eighths
- Background, 1 1/2 yards
For the lowercase baby quilt, all of the above, plus:
- Background, 1 1/4 yards
- Backing, 3 yards
- Binding, 3/8 of a yard
For numbers zero through nine:
- Numbers, about 1/2 yard total scraps. The amount required for each number varies, but ranges from pieces 6" x 6" to 9" x 9" in size.
- Background, 2/3 yard
These patterns assume that you are fairly confident with foundation paper piecing (FPP) and do not include basic instructions for this technique. The patterns do include tips and guidance, however, and there are lots of free videos out there for FPP, so don't be intimidated!
Also available with punctuation.
